In 1920 U.S.S. S-5, practicing crash dives off the Atlantic coast, sank due to a combination of negligence and poor mechanical design. Fortunately, it went down in relatively shallow water. Unfortunately, the compressed air remaining in the vessel was sufficient to raise only the submarine's stern to the surface. The crew then began a daylong struggle to endure foul air and unnaturally tilted quarters until they could cut a hole in the exposed stern. From there they signaled a passing ship, whose engineers cut another hole through which the crew was rescued. S-5 is still where it sank, but her ingenious captain, aptly nicknamed "Savvy," went on to acquire four stars, a rating this book also deserves. The nightmares inflicted on her crew by the "latest thing in American submarines" will make readers doff their hats in tribute to the early submariners, who went down under the sea in ships that didn't always come up. Here is a very different submarine book in which one is entrapped just off the Eastern seaboard with no contact with the outside. The manner in which its captain and crew work to make the best of it would raise the hair of any submariner, officer or enlisted. As a 20 year submariner, it kept me on my toes as these sailors never gave up in their fight for escape and rescue. An almost unimaginable situation and an unbelievable amount of guts on the part of the captain and crew.

This is an absolute "must read" for any submarine buff, but especially so if you like "S" boats. Not just for the on edge excitement of the accident and rescue but for life in general as a submariner onboard an S-class sub in the early years of the silent service. Not much reading of this quality is available covering this time span in the subs and "Under Pressure" strikes the nail on the head. This book is proof that you dont have to have a war to have heroes, highly recommended reading.

Enjoyable reading

The story of the S-5 is one I've been familiar with my whole life, the executive officer LT Grisham (whose nickname was "Jim" not "Charlie") was my grandfather. He and his wife Mary were not getting ready to start a family, my mother was four years old at the time. I don't want to give away the ending, so I think I needed to make clear that my existence was not predicated on LT Grisham's survival.The book is a real page-turner, I read it in one sitting. Although I was well aware of the outcome, Mr. Hill kept me enthralled. My heart was beating fast and my hands were sweaty. It is an inspiring book, uplifting to read about the honor and valor of men in terrifying predicaments.It's also a graphic description of the conditions aboard submarines in the early days of the silent service.A MUST-READ

This is a really great book. I purchased this after reading a copy from a library. I had to have my own copy. I also bought one for my son. The book is full of detailed descriptions of what happened. It is a wonderful lesson in the ability of men to overcome all obstacles and survive.

This is so good it's hard to believe it actually happened. Imagine you are in a submarine near the bottom of the ocean, and you see and feel water coming through the top. I could not put it down until I finished it.

I've read tons of submarine storys and prefer the true ones over the fiction so this one already had a plus. The men of the S-5 should have counted their blessing everyday to have gotten out with their lives. Imagine trying to drill through the hull of a sub with a hand drill? not to mention all the other trouble they were faced with, WOW. Very good story that'll keep your attention from front to back, and great photos to go along with it.

Great lesson in perseverance in the face of nearly impossible odds of survival.

As an avid reader, I've read thousands of books in my life, including countless works of fiction. Occasionally a book comes along that is just plain fun and easy to read. The Loyal Angel is one of those books. The story is compelling, the characters come to life, and the mental images that are conjured while you read are vivid and absorbing. I enjoyed this book enough that I did something I don't often do. I read it more than once. Malachi, the main character, is faced with a decision that will change the course of all creation. In the face of overwhelming adversity, he chooses loyalty. The question that waits until the last possible moment to be answered is simply where he will place his loyalty. Will he choose God or will he choose Lucifer? Once his decision is made, the events that follow transition from the Holy City to the new Earth where the reader gets a front row seat to the battle between Lucifer's legion of demons and the host of angels that God has sent to protect the human race. For those who will test the book for its theology, the author does a great job of taking liberty within the story while staying solidly within the doctrines of the bible. In fact, there is a section at the back of the book that lists scriptural passages that support the story. It's possible there will be people who consider this book controversial, or just plain heresy, due to the story being written "between the lines" of the bible. For me, I didn't. I just enjoyed a really good story that, in my opinion, didn't contradict scripture. If you're looking for a page turner, this one does the trick!

My favorite genre is Christian fiction. There is another twist to this book, Biblical fantasy. Mr. Crocker represents scripture with accuracy and inspiration. Haven't we all wondered what existed before Creation? How exactly did God speak the earth into existence? What did the serpent look like in Eden? Did Adam and Eve have children before Adam and Eve? The author does not claim a corner on these scenarios, he simply places a chair on the front row and invites us to see what we have only read. In my personal faith walk with the Lord, I was comforted, challenged, and stimulated. Hopefully, this one book wonder author will be publishing a second book very soon!

I Love this book! Once I began reading, I wasn’t able to put it down! The description of each event is so vivid, I feel like I am right there with the characters. Also, it has zingers that take my breathe away and that I never see coming! I'm never able to predict what's going to happen. And then I'm blown away! The end especially blew my mind! I was breathless!It is biblically acurate and brings the unimaginable into existence. I am anxiously awaiting a sequel!

This book was great. It made me cry at times and happy at others. It's interesting to read on different versions of satan's rebellion. The bible doesn't say how the rebellion came about just that it happened.

I truly enjoyed the Loyal Angel. It had my attention throughout the entire book. I praise and worship the Lord and thank Him for choosing me. I look forward to reading more of this author books.

This book was amazing. I loved the fact that this book took me there. I felt like I was allowed to watch the scenes unfold in front of me while crouching down behind a rock. The book gave me a different perspective of the familiar stories, and it was a more in depth approach to the many biblical stories that we've heard about for years. I was really disappointed that the book ended. Very well written and a wonderful journey.

Angels and Deamons in Gods Creation interferes with humans - and have since God created mankind. Satan (the fallen angel) hates having been pushed down from his perceived second-in-command position. A great fiction telling the history of man from before Adam to Paul the Apostle - told by an (fictious) Angel who was there. Some Christians do not (wish to) see the spiritual part of humanity. But God is Spirit, and we have been created in his image... We are not to "worship Angels" or "make everything a spiritual matter", but we do have a spritual war to fight so every help in understanding that part of our reality is in my opinion good.I really enjoyed this book. The fictional parts are within the possibility and thereby helpful as to imagine that realm.

I enjoyed reading The Loyal Angel and especially enjoyed the author’s use of imagination in telling the story of Abel and Cain and the early community of mankind. The book was a page turner, a great weekend read.
