fun for you and me! adventure on the high seas. Pirate treasure and funny voices, all make for a great read!
My kindergartener (5) and her little brother (3) are crazy about Jake and Neverland Pirates. Since they are both big in to pirates at the moment, I thought nothing about picking up this book at my daughter's school book fair. It's a beginner reader right? Man, I should have read through it before purchase. Do I really want my little reader learning about aggressive behavior, violence, and murder? "Will they give us their gold without a fight? They do not. Get ready to attack. We fight to the death." Is this appropriate reading material for level 1 readers?The illustrations are very good -- hence the two stars -- but I didn't think the photos of the pistol, ax and cutlass were necessary. They are labeled next to the text about "Get your weapons ready", but what they really are instruments of murder and death. Ready to explain all that to a 5-year-old? Then this book is for your little one.
Surprisingly violent for a book supposedly intended for small children. I checked out this book from the library for my 3 year old son who is crazy about pirates, and couldn't believe it when I read it to him at home. Lesson learned for me, read the books myself before reading them to my kids. Not recommended.
