Great book. Some good advice and pertinent reflection. The book speaks to the teens and approach subjects that some teens do not like or feel uncomfortable to share with parents in details (such as sex life, alcohol and addictions). Our teens usually look at the sky whenever we talk about these subjects (so boring Rrrr!) but Sean Covey manages to explain how important their choices on this matter are and how it can influence the rest of their existence. Also, the vocabulary is straight forward and accessible to any teen. Highly recommended.

A gift for my 15-yr old grandson. I read it before giving it to him - pre-qualify. Good advice for everyone.

My 9th grade twins needed this for a required reading. I am only giving it four stars because I didn't see them "glued" to the book and reading it cover to cover. However, it has such great advice for kids and is written in their language. They happened to be reading it when my husband and I announced that we were divorcing, I found one of the boys laying in his bed reading it that night with a few tears in his eyes and it helped us start a conversation. I think it has helped them deal with what life brings.

Our 12 year old son loves this book. Out of the blue, the book has spawned many deep questions and conversation from him. The book is helping him sort out many of the important decisions, issues and questions kids his age face.

My son will be 14 next month. He's an eighth grader. This book couldn't have come at a better time. My son is very receptive to the information. We have been reading together every night for about a half hour and he actually looks forward to it. Sean Covey writes on a level to which teens can relate. He doesn't sugar coat anything. It's straight forward and factual, yet it's written with tact and not too graphic. I would highly recommend this book for kids in late middle school and early high school. At the rate we are going, they are hearing about or even seeing so much of this in school already. Far better this education be lead by the parent instead of other kids at school.

I work with the local municipality assisting first offender youths by providing them with counseling on what they did wrong, and giving them a way to provide reparations for their actions. We have used this book as one of those means. Its straightforward, provides common issues that kids face, and it provides straightforward ways of dealing with those conflicts. I don't agree with everything in the book, but it will help the kids gain perspective and it's an easy read. I was able to read it in a couple days and be able to reference talking points from the book with the kids. (I do think if you want a child to read it, you should as well. It may help you (parent, guardian, authority figure) with some perspective as well)

I purchased two copies, one for each of my children/teens. They both and myself read this book cover to cover and my teens will re-read it when the need arises. Just another tool for parenting without sounding like a preaching parent.

I got this for my turn son after he took a class on the 7 habits of highly effective teens. He likes it! Wish I'd had this knowledge when I was a teen!

This book serves as a good introduction to Raspberry Pi, and Linux operating systems in general. It starts off by outlining the basic functionality of the Pi, including how to configure your Pi for different purposes, from server administration to Python programming, and even how to use it to manipulate hardware. The book is very well-written and easy to understand (as many Wiley books are), so even a complete beginner should have no problem learning with this book.The only downside to this book is that even though this edition was only published in 2014, it's already a little bit outdated, especially with the recent release of the Raspberry Pi 2 Model B. You'll find that some of the commands listed in the book don't work 100% correctly, at least if you're using the most current version of Raspbian. However, a quick Google search of the problem, will turn up plenty of results on how to resolve the issues. Most of the time, it simply involves eliminating a word or two from a command, because it became obsolete between the time this edition was published and now.However, I would still recommend this book to anyone looking to start tinkering with a Raspberry Pi. I bought this book a few weeks ago, and with this book (and the help of a friend), I was able to quickly get a web server up and running where I am currently hosting a personal website, and I may even by another Pi to tinker around some more. I almost gave this book 3 stars due to the issues I had with some of the commands, but I think this book still functions as a good primer to the Raspberry Pi, and based on the quality of the content, deserved at least 4 stars.

This guide is well written and contains very useful information for anyone new to the world of RPi. Further, the Raspberry Pi is simply the most awesome little device that I've found in a very long time. I read recently a description of the RPi that called it a "Computer Set", analogous to a "Chemistry Set": building blocks to allow anyone of any age to learn and build and discover... all in a tiny, inexpensive package.I also purchased Raspberry Pi Hacks: Tips & Tools for Making Things with the Inexpensive Linux Computer which is an excellent resource beyond the basics.My full Raspberry Pi setup includes: - RASPBERRY PI MODEL B 756-8308 Raspberry Pi B - Edimax EW-7811Un 150 Mbps Wireless 11n Nano Size USB Adapter with EZmax Setup Wizard - Multicomp Clear Raspberry Pi Enclosure (MC-RP001-CLR) - SanDisk Ultra 8 GB SDHC Class 10 Flash Memory Card 30MB/s SDSDU-008G-U46 - AmazonBasics Wired Keyboard and Wired Mouse Bundle - AmazonBasics 7 Port USB 2.0 Hub with 5V/4A power adapter - SMAKN PL2303HX USB to TTL to UART RS232 COM Cable module Converter - USB to RS485 Converter Adapter ch340T chip Support 64-bit Win7 - GearMo® Mini USB to RS485 / RS422 Converter FTDI CHIP with Screw Terminals (I actually bought this RS484 adapter elsewhere, as it was rather expensive on amazon)Be sure to check out some of the online resources such as adafruit (great project ideas), as well as The MagPi (a very good, online RPi Magazine - free!)If you find yourself needing to login from your phone or kindle, be sure to check out the JuiceSSH app (you'll need to back load this onto the kindle after downloading from google play). If interested in RPi, be sure to check out the eLinux (dot org) web site, as it has a ton of great information on compatibility.I've been completely happy with my RPi & recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about computers!

Author drifts off topic such as devoting many pages describing how to solder components, or creating a game that fails to demonstrate I/O capabilities of the PI. Author spends too many pages/chapters on software that is not a clear tutorial of Python. A much better tutorial of the PI is available on the RaspberryPi.org website and a much more comprehensive explanation of Python is available on the Python.org website. The book might be better with more basic code examples that demonstrate the many programming strengths of Python and their interactions with the PI. This book is too choppy for a beginner and not in enough depth for an advanced user. I suggest looking elsewhere for a tutorial.

I skimmed through the book in an evening. I have some familiarity with Linux, but not the Pi platform so I thought this would be a good intro. The book covers basics of the types of board(A/B), what is on the board, installing an OS, a little programing intro, some info on projects you can build, and additional parts/components you can buy. The book will give you enough detail to get started. It is not a step by step manual. It would make a good book for a younger reader who is just getting started with raspberry pi or someone a little older who is curious about the platform.

I just received my CanaKit Raspberry Pi starter kit and this User's Guide by Eben Upton. The book is very up to date and explained everything I needed to know and needed to do to get the Raspian Linux O/S installed on the Pi, and get the board fired up. The details in the book matched the board and the actual software screens exactly. I had read part of the book before the kit came. Using this book, I had the Pi up and running Raspian in the GUI mode with a display, mouse, keyboard, and wireless WiFi in less than an hour after opening the box. I am not new to computers or electronic hardware, but I had not used Linux in many years, and had never set up a Linux system ever before. I am extremely pleased with this book. It provides a balance of console commands and explanation of the GUI apps. It also gets you into programming Scratch and Python just a bit, and also into the GPIO hardware interfacing just a bit. Now that I am up and running, I will be seeking out some more detailed reference books on Linux. -pete

I went back to order the older edition, because the newer one is far more difficult to read, and is missing many streets. Evidently Rand Macnally bought TB and then shipped most of the production to India, and is now no longer making.

One of the best reads on the topic. Very quick without all of the fluff of other books on the subject. Straight and to the point.

Decent book. Worth taking the little time it takes to read it. (Recommend "The Smart Stepdad")

anyone could have sat and typed this. no ah-ha moments, no new information and certainly nothing beyond common sense. was looking for some substance and insight. not found here.

This gets right to the point and sticks with step-by-step solutions for the problems of stepdads and others involved in the complicated emotions of what he calls "blended families," with a majority in Western countries having at least one step-relative. In just a few pages he packs in clear explanations of the roots of these problems that are not obvious to those in the trenches, who often have big arguments over small things. Everyone affected should read this.

An outstanding read for a man on the go. In today's day and age, most men in the working world don't have time for 70,000 plus page works from most writers, who seem to fill a book with meaningless phrases that make them look important. This writer did not do that and he cut out all of the BS! He got straight to work, he referenced his material well and he backs up what he writes by having lived it and raised a family in the very relationship he writes about. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting some good insights to help with an ailing step-family marriage and to anyone considering marrying into a step-mom or step-dad relationship. "Well done."

Finally, a help book written by a real person who has lived the ups and downs of step parenting! A must read for the sake of you, your significant other, and especially for the sake of the children affected by the blended relationship. Avoid pitfalls and learn useful tools!

This is a must read guide. Simple and insightful. It really hit home on some key components of the mixed family dynamic. Id suggest you read this if you are tired of where Confucius sayings leave you, and if you'd FINALLY like some answers. A read that actually has made sense.

Books 1 and 2 provide good photo-coverage of composite introduction and fabrication. Step-by-step details are clearly depicted from the making of simple parts to production tooling. All are done in non-technical, easy-to-understand fashion.Be aware though, as stated on the covers, these books are in the "garage series" and are geared towards hands-on fabrication (as opposed to design). The emphasis is towards cosmetic rather than high-efficiency structural applications.So if your interests are towards building hood scoops, cycle fenders, etc, you will find these books highly informative.If your interest are towards aerospace or racecar structural composites where high-strength and light-weight are paramount, look elsewhere. Also, if you are looking for information on technical design of composites, look elsewhere.

Unlike other books that merely recite info that you can google, this book includes thorough details on some of the more obscure composite fabrication methods.

Functional How to Books. Worth the money if you NEED to know this information. Quite expensive for general bedtime reading though. There are no villains, hero's, or scary monsters in the book save for the fact that your blood pressure will rise a bit when slathering on catalyzed fiberglass resin knowing that you have a REAL deadline before the stuff starts to seize up.

excellent book for basic concepts and getting started with fiber glass or carbon fiber

These books start out fairly basic and build from there. There are a lot of pictures and the text is very descriptive. I have done some of the basic methods, and feel more confident that I could do the more advanced techniques having read these books. That being said, all tree books come up to a fairly hefty price tag, which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.

I bought this item with Composite Materials: Fabrication Handbook #1. Both are well written in a logical fashion and there are a lot of full-coloured pictures which really help with the understanding of the topic. The book is written so that someone with no knowledge of composite materials can easily understand and get into their first project with some level of confidence.My only complaint is that the text and corresponding pictures are at times not placed near to each other, so there is a good bit of page turning when one wants to get a visual to the text being read. Other than that, this book is a must have for the DIY enthusiast who would like to start working with composite materials.I am looking forward to starting my first composite materials project within the next few weeks.

It was impossible to find any information on doing a mold on the Internet. This is 100% what I was looking for. I'm on my way!

Great intro to composites. I've learned a lot and introduced this series to couple of my friends. We actually used this book as a reference when we made carbon fiber wing for electric FSAE car as my senior design project.

About the Author

Peter César Amaringo practiced for many years as a healer in the Peruvian Amazon. Today he paints the visions he remembers from his shamanic practice and teachers young people to paint as director of the USKO-AYAR Amazonian School of Painting in Pucallpa, an art school he cofounded with Luis Eduardo Luna in 1988, where local youth are educated in the care and preservation of the Amazon ecosystem.Luis Eduardo Luna was born and raised in the Colombian Amazon region. He earned his Ph.D. from the Institute of Comparative Religion of Stockholm University. He is a Guggenheim Fellow and Fellow of the Linnaean Society of London. The author of Vegetalismo: Shamanism among the Mestizo Population of the Peruvian Amazon, he has been a Senior Lecturer in Spanish at the Swedish School of Economics in Helsinki since 1979 and since 1986 an Associate of the Botanical Museum of Harvard University.

This is a classic which I was very happy to still be able to obtain. Amazon shamans who take ayahuasca have an enhanced vision of nature - to the extent that it is now claimed they can see the molecular structures of plants and animals - and were able to do so long before science got there through the microscope. What is a lesson to Western Man is that shamans like Pablo Amaringo who can also put down in painted images - as shown in this book - their experience of being interconnected with animals, plants, spirits of their ancestors, and the greater spirits on higher levels that hold the entire creation on earth together, remind us of how far our society has become divorced from that sense of union with all things. A similar vision was created in the Findhorn Gardens in Scotland in the 1970s, where the God Pan made himself known to its gardeners because of the care ordinary humans were taking to talk to the spirits in the plants and birds that will commune with us if we only stopped trying to 'control' nature!

The best of the best. If you ever wanted to know what it "looks" like to take a real "trip" on the DMT Queen of the jungle. The visual imagery is very much like the real thing, only a little clearer. It is sort of a best of the trips synopsis without all the trouble of getting down to South America. And even better, in my opinion, is Edwardo Luna's commentary on what these visions may mean in both a cultural and scientific context. He is of course an anthropologist who has taken many trips to try and understand them. Highly recommended for anyone thinking about learning more either with or without entheogens.

I first saw the artists work while reading Graham Hancocks "Supernatural". It was amazing and led me to other readings. Eventually I used the artists style and applied it to a w40k mural I was painting at a local store. Far from a simple collage of ayahuasca induced images,each painting has deep meaning. When I ordered this book I was sad to find out the artist had passed in 1997.If you paint,draw,or are interested in the deeper ayahuasca lore,this book is a must have for you.I really wanted the hardback but not enough to pay $600 for it.

I have tried time and again to pick up this book and read the text in sequence, but the full-page color plates of Pablo Amaringo's paintings always pull me away from the text and into the world of shamans, angels, devils, serpents, jungle cats, mermaids, and aliens. I've read a lot of the text, but usually I have done so in search of an explanation for the images in specific paintings.My first ayahuasca experiences were under the guidance of Luis Eduardo Luna. His knowledge of plant lore, chemistry, shamanism, and human nature is awe-inspiring, and I do want to read his words, but the pull of Pablo Amaringo's images has been too strong for me to resist thus far. I'm glad to have this book on my shelf because whenever someone asks me about ayahuasca, I know that I can place this book in their hands and the images will capture their imagination and make them hungry to learn more.

Beautiful book!!

Not what I expected. I was more interested in narrative than psychedelic visions. I am more interested in the general philosophy behind the beliefs than what someone actually "sees".

My husband went to Peru, and he met this artist. I was impressed by the amazing and meanful pictures in the book. A must have if you are trying to create awareness of what is really happening in the cosmo.

Incredible book. Great story, outstanding academics, beautiful art work, inspiring example. Book arrived inexcellent shape.
